The tragedy of depending on spellcheck!
I was taught that most mistakes that get through are in the very beginning and very end of an article. The one that haunts me was a story with a headline about pubic accounting. As I recall, another employee won $35 for suggesting that the word “pubic” be struck from the applicable spellcheck. It’s easy enough to skip if one is really using it, after all.
