In and around Athens, 1971

Some images of a trip I made to Athens in 1971, while a guest aboard the USS Cascade, AD-16 (a subject for a future post.)

A side trip to Delphi

The oracle was out to lunch

An amazing trip. My only visit to Greece, but enough to make me want to go back – even with all the financial troubles they have been struggling with over the past few years.

  1. Lovely post! I enjoyed looking at the photos as I’ve recently blogged about my trip to Athens. There seems to be less/no tourists in most of your photos though!

    • There were a few, but not many. The scenery along the way, through the mountains and valleys, was spectacular. One of the things that surprised me the most on the trip was to find a Tupperware factory nestled in one of the corners. We stopped at a delightful little ταβέρνα where no one spoke English for some Greek salad and Retsina…
