Joe was my father. During the communist witch hunt, he and many of his colleagues were unjustly tainted by allegations of disloyalty and sedition. This letter was the end of the official episode for my father, but the event had a decided dampening effect on the remainder of his career, as extensive as it was. I often wonder how much more success he could have seen, had there not been this miasma hanging over him.
May we never allow this kind of insult against the American people to be repeated. Big Brother must be fought at every turn.

Playing in the World Game 
If citizens begin to turn against their government, it tends to be because the government has turned on its citizens. And if loyalty is defined by whether or not you voted for “the other guy”, or whether you would have liked to have another guy to vote for, then Democracy is dead. And if it wasn’t entirely dead during the McCarthy era, it did at least have a considerable out-of-body experience.
I often think I’m glad I didn’t live in those times, but what is happening socially in *these* times is just as frightening.
