The confusing world of Chinese drop-shipping

I start by saying I have no understanding whatever of how this works. But here’s what happened with my last online order from a company called “buletboard.”¹

I wish I had bought these directly from Amazon, I could have gotten an instant refund, because these things are:

So poorly designed that there’s hardly an American car that the device will clip to. I barely got it to stay on my Rav4, and then the phone essentially blocks my view of the road. The device does not take phone cases into consideration, the phone barely fits in the clips, and getting the phone into the holder is close to impossible. Shame on me for buying from China once again.

The product was ordered on August 16, and arrived today, September 10th. But the most interesting thing was the emails I kept getting from the company about “The status of your parcel has been updated.”

  • Belfast,bt170wg,United Kingdom,The shipment has been processed in the parcel center of origin.
  • The shipment has left the sorting center.
  • Lincoln,LN4 3SD,United Kingdom,The shipment is in transit in United Kingdom.
  • The shipment arrived at the customs of United Kingdom.
  • The shipment is being inspected at the customs of United Kingdom.
  • The shipment has been shipped to United States.
  • The shipment arrived at the customs of United States.
  • The shipment is declared at the customs clearance of United States.
  • Departed Shipping Partner Facility in the United States.
  • Transit: New Orleans,70139,United States,The shipment is in transit in the country of United States. (four days after the parcel arrived.)

When the package arrived, it had several labels, one on top of the other. The first one was in Chinese, and included my name, address, the product description, and a bunch of barcodes.

The second label indicated that it was shipped from “Online Seller, 2700 Center DR, Dupont, WA 98327.

This is far, far from the East coast where I would have expected the package to arrive, if it were indeed being shipped from Belfast, and being processed through customs in the UK. It’s also an Amazon fulfillment center.

The second, final label indicated that the sender was:

DEBRAG HABOUSHS
3511 VICTORY BLVD
STATEN ISLAND NY 10314

A self-storage office? This makes no sense at all. I mean, I can see the package being sent from Washington on the West Coast if the item were shipped from China, to a distribution point in the East, since we live in Maine. But a self-storage office, and with such a phony-sounding name?

One thing is clear: the chain of emails sent to me by “buletboard” was 100% bogus, since the product obviously came directly from China. Combine that with the poor quality of the product I received and essentially wasted my money on, should be a glaring drudge siren flashing in my eyes to remind me never to buy anything from a Chinese vendor again.

The Old Wolf has sadly spoken.

¹ Most of these Chinese companies must use random name generators for their popup companies which are here today and gone tomorrow, re-appearing somewhere else with a new name after the first one is shut down for shady dealings.

  1. This is so interesting…I ordered a necklace & it arrived in a bubble envelope with the same two labels as you just described.. same “names” & same addresses. Also an order “from china”.

Mine also had tees, “from Italy,” updates about shipping & stuck in customs in Italy…

    Quite the scam business….

  2. This just happened to me. I have no idea who this is.i ordered “Cakes” and I got some bogus product from this company as well. What do you do about it???

  3. Hi. I just received a package in the mail from Debrag Haboushs, same address. it was a pair of reusable nipple covers..
I haven’t ordered anything online in months. Not sure where this came from

  4. Ike McCoy commented: “This company is a rip off so please don’t buy any merchandise from them, plus they don’t Honor there Agreement with there customers. I brought some merchandise from them and sent them pictures of what they sent me and told them that the merchandise don’t fit my SUV TRUCK Windows ( 2 Window Screens ) and they replied that it was nothing they could do about it, and I was stuck with it, so please don’t Patronize this company u will get rip off if u do, so beware family and friends. Ike McCoy”

(Ike, I moved your comment from an incorrect section so it would show up here.)

    • I’m having the same problem, what they sent me isn’t correct but when I sent email they say warehouse claims it is correct. What a bunch of crooks, I have their emails stating what I ordered! Don’t buy anything on facebook! This is the 2nd time I got scammed although first time I posted so many negative things on their f/b page they refunded me all the money. These crooks only want to give me $4 when I paid $60.

  5. I ordered a tube of reline for my upper dentures and china sent me a cheap upper and lower child size dentures. What a ripoff!!! And I have no idea who to contact to get what I ordered!
China is ripping us off and we need a president like Donald Trump to put a stop to this and start ripping them off!!!
    PAY BACK BITCH!!!!!!!

  6. Bought the same car phone holder. First they sent me a tracking number that showed the company originated in France and then when the tracking showed it got to new jersey two weeks after I paid the extra for expedited shipping it stopped. Then when I reached out to them, they said that the tracking information was wrong and sent me a new one. Finally went to the post office and they showed it had been delivered USPS to an address a block away with the same four numbers on address. Then VOILA! UPS just dropped it off at my front door?!? The second shipping label showed it was sent out on 8/26. I just showed up. I am never using TEMU again. Just use amazon. Just use amazon. I just impulsed with a company I never heard of and now they have my credit card. Never again.

    • I’ll start by saying I have no connection to Temu what so ever except as a customer but I think I would give them another chance. I have bought a lot of good quality merchandise at unbelievable prices. I do have complaints. I thought the description of two of the items I bought was a little exaggerated. Also, the shipping times were a little excessive, although this seems to be improving as time goes on. Just my opinion, take it for what it’s worth.

  7. I posted a reply, then another comment to correct a typo, but then my original reply was gone. Was just saying that I, too, received a package from this DEBRAG HABOUSHS (same Staten Island return address) but that it was nothing I ordered. It was some sort of red plastic container with a very thin, taught plastic film covering it. Looks almost like a petri dish but it’s not that. I’m so baffled why they would send me something out of the blue.

    • Emily, your comments showed up after I approved them. After a bit of research, I came up with this from a user on reddit: “To the best of my memory the consensus was this is some sort of scam to game the seller grading system. They create an account with your name and address and then buy from their merchant account and ship the worthless goods to “you”. The completed shipments are what they are fishing for by doing this as it somehow increases their search rank or something.” Another user commented: “Someone kept your address from an item you bought probably a long time ago. Chinese crime organizations are trying to cash in on Amazon hype. They list 100k to 500k individual products for about 5 dollars or less they do not have and have no plan of mailing out. To keep your ratings good and to get paid by Amazon you need to upload tracking numbers as proof. They do not actually plan on sending anything to the costumer, they just send an empty package to show a delivery status. The game is to get tracking to show delivered as fast as they can and get the real customer to hold off as long as possible before filing a complaint. That’s why they are never sent to the real person. Your house is a drop house for tracking numbers to show delivered status, for Chinese organize crime groups.”

These are old comments, about 8 years ago, but reading between the lines it appears that this is a tactic of unethical Chinese merchants to game the system and increase their ratings with Amazon, and the game is still going on. It’s the best explanation I have been able to find.

  8. Same here, I keep emailing them back and they just keep uping the refund. started at $2 now its up to $7. I even copied their refund policy, they just ignored that. Think This time I will say, I am going to post it on Facebook. Makes me mad that people do this crap.

  9. Yep…same story same shipping address and name same shipping email coming from Italy. Paid $40 for what I found on Amazon later for 15.99. I got this off a tiktok video. It was EelHope foundation light spectrum with color adapting technology. All it feels like is watered down hand lotion and does nothing for my face, Looked everywhere for them to get a refund…Found Nothing. Expensive mistake on my part. They won’t get me again.

  10. I had ordered a nightlight via an ad on Instagram. I received updates on the item but it was supposed to come from Ireland. I got suspicious but had already paid and figured then already that I probably never would see the item. Yesterday I received 2 card readers of all things from debrag haboushs as return address. Never order anything through Instagram or Facebook. SCAM

    • Ain’t that frustrating? The world of commerce is so different from the one I grew up in during the ’50s. A good product would last a lifetime, and wasn’t discontinued after 3 months, and could be repaired, and companies actually cared about their customers.

    • If it has value and you don’t need it, Goodwill is always a good option. If it’s just worthless junk, just throw it away. There’s no practical way to return things to China.

  11. I ordered some makeup from this company.

When I received it, the color was the wrong shade. I can’t use it. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find out where to get it exchanged. I can’t locate them. I guess I’ve been scammed.
